Tankless water heaters are
energy-efficient alternatives for your water heating needs. These can provide
hot water to your family for at least two decades, but proper maintenance and
annual checks can even prolong their life expectancy and continue contributing
to lower energy costs.
Have
basic knowledge of your water heater. Where
is it located, and how is it turned off? Knowing these basic information about
your tankless water heater should be your first step in maintaining them.
Turn
off your tankless water heater. After
turning off the power source, remove the lid from your water heater and close
off the three water valves. Once all valves have been removed, use 2.5 gallons
of undiluted white vinegar to clean your water heater.
Flush
and drain. Follow the
instructions provided by the manufacturer in flushing and draining your
tankless water heater. Once the flushing process is complete, close the purge
port valves, disconnect the hosing lines from each water valve, and replace the
purge port valve caps onto the purge valves.
Clean
the filter. Find the
label indicating the filter’s location, remove it from the water heater, and
clean it under running water. Replace it as indicated on the manual.
